about

Memorial presents seven incredible and previously unreleased cuts from the Ron Mathewson tape archive, which effortlessly showcase his virtuosic and versatile skills on both the upright and electric bass. Each track hails from a separate session and a separate group, all containing the crème-de-la-crème of British Jazz players and spanning eight years of Ron's illustrious career from 1968 - 1976. The only constant is Ron, who appears alone on the final track - his unreleased masterwork Black Forest (imagine an epic Viking saga on double bass). Memorial also offers a glimpse of future releases from Jazz In Britain, as each track (with the exception of Black Forest) is taken from a larger session recording. We plan to issue the majority of these sessions in complete form over the next year or so.

Jazz In Britain hope that you will find this album to be a truly fitting tribute to the late great gentleman genius bassist of British Jazz.
